THIS IS MY THESIS PROJECT RIPPLEBLUE

The interest in reducing ocean pollution through graphic design came from a video I saw. The video is about a group of marine biologists in Costa Rica who was horrified to discover an endangered sea turtle with a long plastic straw lodged in its nostril and they were trying to remove that from turtle's nose which left the poor turtle bleeding and clearly wincing in pain. It’s so heartbreaking to learn that many sea turtles often end mistake items like plastic bags and straws for food, which can lead to blockages, infections, and death. 

 

I did some research after I saw the video, and I realized that I have to do something because we are the ones who cause the problem, but sea creatures are suffering from it. Plastic touches all of our lives, from the food packaging we buy to the cars we drive. But many of the plastics in our daily lives are used only once and thrown away. Every year, 8 million metric tons of plastics enter our oceans. All that plastic is causing harm to the creatures that live in the ocean, Over 1 million sea creatures are killed each year due to plastic pollution in the ocean, including mammals, fish, sharks, turtles, and birds.

But the future of plastics in our ocean will be determined by the way we handle plastics on land. Based on the research, the long term solution is to transform the role that single-use plastic plays in our daily lives. Say no to single-use plastic and save our oceans.

 

I named this project RippleBlue because I believe a little change in our lifestyle can make a big difference in reducing plastic pollution from the ocean.
